Jacobson

Harry Jacobson came to Vryburg from Zeerust in the Transvaal, having owned a hotel there. He first owned a bottle store in Stella and then acquired the Central Hotel. He was the son of Joel and Lena Jacobson and he was born in Lepeija, Latvia on 6 October 1892.

He married Regina Levius (Lewis), whose brothers Abbie and Louis farmed in Vryburg and they reached South Africa in the early 1920s. Regina and her brothers were also from Lepeija. Regina departed for South 27 March 1930. She reached Cape Town on 21 April 1930 and then moved to Vryburg. Harry Jacobson and Regina were married on 30 May 1937 in Johannesburg. The couple had twin boys, Reginald Paul Jacobson and Leonard Joel Jacobson, on 19 March 1939. Regina passed away same day from birth-related complications.

Harry later married Sarah Saible from Vryhied. Her mother Janie Reuben was from Rakisky in Lithuania. Her father David was also from Lithuania. David had a Hotel near Vryheid in a place called Kongolana. Sarah and her first husband, Joseph Hilowitz, had a daughter, Shaina. She was born in 1938, a year after they were married in Vryheid. Harry (son of Chaim Isaac and Raisa Stein) was a farmer and storekeeper and died in 1942 at the age of 41. He also lived at Kongolona. The Hilowitz family was from Pušalotas or Puisilat (near to Panavezy). Sarah and Shaina first moved to Joburg and then Vryburg after she met Harry Jacobson. Sarah passed away in 1955 and Shaina left Vryburg not long after that.
