Hummel 

Jacob (Jack) Hummel and his wife Jessie moved to Vryburg and were very involved in the local Jewish community. The family arrived in Vryburg in 1959/1960. Jack worked for Solomon's Stores and he passed away in 1964, leaving his wife and two daughters. After Jack passed away Jessie and her daughters moved to Johannesburg. Jack is buried in the local Jewish cemetery. Jessie passed away in 1993 and is buried in Westpark Cemetery. Jessie had a daughter from her first marriage, named Ruth and together they had a daughter Hermoine (Hermie).

Jacob Hummel was the son of Herman and Esther (nee Moritz) Hummel. Herman's family were from Talsen in Latvia. Herman Hummel's parents were Wulf and Sheina (Wolfson). They had 10 children, Herman, was the eldest and he was joined in South Africa by three or four siblings in South Africa. They settled in SWA and Upington, playing a semiasl role in the Upington community.

Esther Moritz  was the daughter of Taube and Jack Moritz. Jack was from Ponevez in Lithuania. Herman and Ester had two children,  a daughter Sadie Leah, who was born in 1917 and Jack. The latter was born in 1920, in Muizenberg. Mother Esther passed away in 1935, with Jack aged 15. In 1947, he lost his father.
